rangers recovery skill is not worth using now.

I don't remember when this started happening as I don't use the skill that often. But now I find I need to use it in turimnun and I have found that when I use it I am facing away from the monster and by the time I get turned around the monster has already turned and is once again whaling on me. It used to be that you were facing the monster when you used it.
Is this supposed to be like this?
