So we've all read the rage posts by various players by now. Admittedly, there are many things in the game's programming that can be improved. It is open beta so some leniency could be extended. Fact is, we can be confident the developers want the game to succeed. Another fact is, the developers know more about their activities than we do. Sure, we are all frustrated by the lack of specifics addressing current issues. Since we can be sure the developers want the game to succeed, we can be certain they are discussing/evaluating solutions. I know the frustration is real, but flame posts don't help the development process. What flame posts are effective at, is chasing away new players. They give a negative impression of the game and its community.
The issues with the game will be worked out with time. Have patience and work through the beta process.
The community is shaped by you. An MMO is hugely dependent on its community. So lets look at some ways we can help build a community people want to be part of:
1) Stop the destructive comments on the forums. Yes there, will be issues that come up. When that happens: use the official channel Nexon provides (such as a Google Forms survey), if applicable. Otherwise, type a professional post (imagine your writing to a colleague) on the forums explaining the issue, why it's an issue, how you think it could be fixed, and your reasoning.
1a) Moderators: I have seen many posts beating a dead horse, so to speak, that have been closed. Some of these threads have also brought up new concerns that have not been addressed. Is there a better solution available than simply closing the threads and not allowing discussion of the new concerns? Perhaps you could use your moderator powers to edit out the "horse remains" and leave the new issues intact? If not, perhaps when you close the thread you could invite the OP to create a new thread to specifically address the new issues and leave out the "horse remains".
2) We can work together to create an in-game environment that people want to play in. Kill stealing and tame stealing are some of the most cancerous behaviors in the game. Have you experienced these before? Remember how awful you felt? Now, don't become the thing you hate.
3) Some top alliances are creating a hostile environment that is discouraging to less "hardcore" players (read: the vast majority of players). Now, I'm not talking about PvP here. That definitely should be a survival of the fittest type of scenario. But if that mentality is used for PvE as well, many players will get discouraged. Once discouraged, they will likely seek out other games. In time you will find yourselves the top alliance on an empty server. Kings of an empty kingdom. If you're in one of the top alliances, no doubt you know who you are and so does the rest of your server. Instead of having an "Elitist" attitude, could you have a welcoming, even courteous, attitude. Perhaps you could sit out on world boss fights once per week to let others get a chance? You would still maintain your dominance but allow others to experience a part of the joy you've had.
These are just a few ideas on how we as players can improve the culture and environment of the game while the developers improve the programming. Together, we can build a game with a thriving community we can all enjoy for a long time.
